SEEING BEYOND THE BODY

About The Art of the Body: Transcending the Nude

Working with the female human body has been my obsession ever since I started exploring photography as my creative channel.
This incredible path has taken me to different approaches to the naked body but in retrospect, I can certainly say that my quest has been an evolving process of transformations, or should I say, transmutations of those bodies into something much deeper, less obvious.
My long years of practicing Taichi and Meditation seem to be giving me the answers as to why I see the body as an evolving process of transcendence, something intangible, almost impalpable both to the naked eye and to the naked body.
The use of many well-known ancient yoga/meditation positions was the basis for exploring and enjoying the beauty of the female body from a more realistic, natural approach. An invitation to a personal spiritual process and inner peace pops out of the images.
The Art of the Body is the start of a new phase in my creative path, as I will keep exploring the body through different actions, motions, and perspectives for years to come. The project will expand towards ballet, dance, and other expressions of the human body in motion

ABOUT DRESSED IN GREEN:

I am always pursuing Beauty in all my projects, and in this series, the blending of natural green resources and the Beauty of the Female Human Body gave birth to a body of work (pun intended!) that helps us remember where are we coming from and where should we be heading to, one more time, and well before Nature as we know it, vanishes. As a dreamer, I want to believe we will be smart enough to prevent this, so we can stay in this unique State of Beauty as it was intended.

ABOUT BODY ALCHEMY:

Blending Analog Photographic Chemistry and Digital Technology to explore the human form through transmutation.
In this project, the naked human body becomes the canvas for a transformative process into a new visual expression, which goes far beyond the beauty and sensuality of the figure which originated the visuals in the first place, the explicit view disappears and the transmutation process occurs by using combined analog (darkroom) and digital (lightroom) techniques.
The Chemo-Digital Prints, developed through a long period of time and experimentation with photographic chemistry in the darkroom, followed by some digital post-production and finishing, constitutes the basis of this -still ongoing- project, all the more so after finding Salvador Dali’s amazing exhibition “Alchemy of the Philosophers” which rekindled my interest in the symbolic, spiritual and ritualistic meaning of the Transmutation processes, and how it affects visual perception, and promises to accompany me for many many years, probably till the end my life in this planet.

ABOUT VESICA PISCIS:

The Portal between the Divine and the Material World. Ancient   Symbology Manifested Through the Body.
A Fine Art Portfolio invoking the human body shapes and forms transmuted through mirrored distortions into ancient symbols and icons of our subconscious heritage, dating over 6000 years old.
Humanity has been using the Vesica Piscis symbol since the oldest ages, a symbol representing multiple meanings, and even secret societies have used it since forever. The basic ancient symbology was later found to have clear mathematical and geometrical relevance, but the important facts are all linked to creativity,  life, consciousness, and balance, well before taking any religious connotations. Some people have called it “Sacred Geometry within the Language of the Universe”, therefore, it is well established that the Vesica Piscis symbol is already part of our core collective subconscious images.
The collection of images is very tight, a limited edition of only 10  prints per image plus 2 Artists Proofs in 24x36 inches and  5 prints in 40x60 per image plus 2 Artists Proofs.  Some large-format unique prints on non-conventional transparent and translucent materials are available ONLY on request.
ABOUT THE BODYSPACE SERIES:
The Body Meets the Landscape and other lyrical Places and Spaces
This series is all about the incorporation and linking of the female human body to the landscape and other spaces, where the interaction between the elements brings out a poetic vision with multiple and subtle readings, from romantic visions to poetic and all the way down dark emotional landscapes.  I can’t think of anything more natural than the natural state of the naked body interacting with natural, naked spaces.
The collection of images is very tight, a limited edition of only 10  prints per image plus 2 Artists Proofs in 30x40 inches digital prints on cotton paper.

ABOUT THE TORSOS SERIES
Probably the most straightforward and less conceptual series of them all. Torsos have been an obsession of  Visual Artists of every generation since the beginnings of paintings and sculpting and that comes as a natural and intuitive exploration of the beauty of the human forms and shapes. Far beyond just a representation, the torsos bring through the ages, an incredible document of how the perception of the beauty of the female body has changed through the different social moments in history. These images are part of my documentation of the contemporary perception of such incredible bodies during my lifetime.

ABOUT THE PETALLIKA COLLECTION
The Secret Life of Flowers. An Exploration on Petal Mutations generating Organic Mandalas and other Symbolic Patterns which stimulate the viewer into their own interpretations of the worlds within. It is more of a reflection of the inner self than of the outside world.
This project started during an Art and Meditation Retreat in a Buddhist Monastery in the northern mountains of Thailand. Following a 2-week long intensive and highly disciplined meditation work, and the new visual perspectives acquired during deep meditation led to this ongoing experiment, which is still quite related to my internal process of transmutation, which I have been inquiring about since my days as a student and graduate in Chemistry.
Somehow, my own “transmutation” from being a chemist and becoming a photographer, the equivalent of having lived two totally different lives in the same lifetime, is what keeps me exploring the subject in all of my personal work.
